A slightly late addition to the drafts. There's a certain kind of poem I want to avoid writing this time round, which is the self-referential free verse poem that is trying to be about something but isn't really.

I realise this is what a lot of people think of their poems at some point anyway - especially first drafts. But after three abandoned freewrites, I ended up with this in a conversation about how Day 2 was going.

Oh, why can't I write?
Nothing is coming to me.
I tried to write about church
and repentance and             peace, but
I'm too
                       peaceful. Here's
a random            animal, and a
random              colour.

I haven't touched
since Undergrad. Did I mention I have
a degree?
